Pilgrims’ Cross Bridge Building Challenge

Year 6 Students at Pilgrims’ Cross Primary School took part in a Bridge Building Challenge as part of their project on Victorian England and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.  Through discussion and practical demonstration, pupils explored different types of bridges and learnt about ‘compression’ and ‘tension’ and what effect these forces have on a structure.  They were then challenged to design and build their own bridges in small teams with the aim of creating a structure that could hold as much weight as possible.  With only a limited amount of time and resources, the ‘young engineers’ had to engage their team working skills and creativity to problem solve and complete the challenge.  Bridges were then tested to destruction.

Neilcott are undertaking works to increase the capacity of the existing school from 1.5 forms of entry to 2 forms of entry for Hampshire County Council.  The project comprises of the construction of three additional classrooms and a group room.  An extension to the staff carpark, a new multi use games area (MUGA), an external canopy link between key stage 1 and key stage 2 teaching blocks and associated landscaping. Services diversions and connections will be undertaken as necessary.  The main works are to be ready for occupation for August 2018.Pilgrims-Cross-2Pilgrims-Cross
