RIBA National Awards 2013

The RIBA has revealed the winners of the RIBA National Awards, the most rigorously judged awards for architectural excellence.  RIBA National Award winning buildings set the standard for good architecture.  The shortlist for the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the 52 RIBA National and EU Award winners.  Neilcott’s Lauriston School project has won a London Award, the project doubled the size of a 1970′s school on the same tight site while keeping the existing school in operation throughout the construction.  To maximise playground area, the classroom block was raised on a bridge among the trees, increasing levels of daylight, ventilation and views; and creating an undercroft play-space the size of a sports hall.  A parent commented: “We wanted a learning environment that was flexible ….., we have a real sense of awe and wonder every time we come into the building.”lauriston_9
